Sugiono calls for continuation of Prabowo's efforts to develop Pencak Silat
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The General Chairman of the Indonesian Pencak Silat Association (PB IPSI) for the 2026–2030 period, Sugiono, has called for the continuation of Prabowo Subianto’s struggle to advance Pencak Silat, which is a sport belonging to the Indonesian nation.
“This administration continues the relay baton that for decades has been held, managed, nurtured, and guided by President Prabowo Subianto,” said Sugiono during the inauguration and inauguration ceremony of the PB IPSI 2026-2030 period in an official statement in Jakarta, Saturday.
During the event held at the TMII Pencak Silat Training Centre, East Jakarta, Sugiono stated that Pencak Silat, as a martial art born and grown from the culture of the Indonesian nation, will continue to be protected and developed.
His administration will continue to strive to improve the achievements of Pencak Silat as well as its preservation as a national culture, following the path set during the leadership of Prabowo Subianto.
Sugiono, who also serves as the Minister of Foreign Affairs, acknowledged that his new administration bears a great responsibility, not only to maintain achievements but also to uphold the grand mission of safeguarding the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.
He ensured that he would embrace various elements to enlarge the presence of Pencak Silat, particularly with the target of bringing the sport to the Olympic Games.
“Cooperation from all elements, cooperation from all leaders, and cooperation from the entire Pencak Silat community is very, very, very much needed by us,” he said.
He added that, besides being a martial arts sport, Pencak Silat also serves as a means to foster brotherhood and unity; therefore, he has formed a management structure that reflects these values.
He stated that the dedication of all officials is required to bring Pencak Silat to greater international recognition and to bring honour to Indonesia.
“The help and support from all of you is an infinite contribution that we can express in the effort to enlarge the sport and culture that we both love,” he said.
He expressed hope that the great responsibility and mandate he carries can be fulfilled well, bringing Pencak Silat to the world stage while making Indonesia more recognised and charismatic in the eyes of the world.
The inauguration ceremony of the IPSI 2026-2030 management was also attended by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi, Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir, Commander of the TNI General Agus Subianto, National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Chairman of KONI Marciano Norman, as well as provincial IPSI officials and representatives of Pencak Silat schools from various regions across Indonesia.
