Sugiono and Araghchi Discuss Regional and Global Situation

Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono and Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi exchanged views on the development of the regional and global situation. “The two ministers exchanged views on the development of the regional and global situation and affirmed the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue, diplomacy, respect for state sovereignty, and international law,” according to a statement from Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs received in Jakarta on Saturday. Sugiono undertook a working visit to Mashhad, Iran, and met with Araghchi. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the Indonesian delegation’s attendance at the funeral procession and final tribute for the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. During the meeting, the two foreign ministers affirmed their commitment to continue strengthening bilateral relations through enhanced, more concrete cooperation in various priority areas. In addition to Sugiono, the Indonesian delegation included the Speaker of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI) Ahmad Muzani, along with representatives from two Islamic mass organisations, namely the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) and Muhammadiyah. The presence of the Indonesian delegation reflected a mission of peace, inter-state solidarity, and respect for the people of Iran. The Indonesian delegation also met with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy, inter-parliamentary exchanges, and closer people-to-people relations between the two countries. The Indonesian delegation was the first official delegation to pay respects at the late leader’s tomb, according to the statement. The visit by the Indonesian delegation reflects the close friendship between Indonesia and Iran, while affirming the consistency of Indonesia’s free and active foreign policy in promoting peace, stability, and international cooperation.
