Sugar Import Corruption Trial: Duty Exemption Granted for Investment, Not State Assignment, Witness Testifies
JAKARTA — In a continued hearing in the alleged sugar import corruption case involving defendant former Trade Minister Thomas Trikasih Lembong, also known as Tom Lembong, it was revealed that import duty exemption facilities were granted not on the basis of a state assignment, but rather in the context of capital investment. This was stated by Roro Reni Fitriani, Director of Business Facility Services at the Ministry of Investment/BKPM, whilst testifying at the Central Jakarta Corruption Court on Monday (21/4/2025). "The import duty exemption has no connection to any state assignment. This is in accordance with what is written in the import duty exemption decree," Roro said in her testimony.
