Sugar Cane Bride Tradition Marks the Start of Milling Season in Tulungagung
Residents dressed in traditional Javanese attire paraded a pair of miniature bride and groom figures during the Manten Tebu tradition at PG Modjopanggoong in Tulungagung, East Java, on Saturday (9/5/2026). The Manten Tebu tradition, held to mark the beginning of the milling season, forms part of the inherited cultural rituals at this state-owned sugar factory, while also supporting the national target for increased sugar production and strengthening the government’s sugar self-sufficiency programme.
