Sufmi Dasco's Solutive Step in Meeting Protesters Praised

Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, has once again demonstrated solutive leadership during a crucial moment when the council leadership faced a wave of aspirations from protesters of the Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB) at the Parliament Complex in Senayan on Thursday (27/8).

“Instead of responding to public pressure defensively, the DPR RI under the command of Deputy Speaker Prof. Sufmi Dasco Ahmad chose to open a space for open dialogue in the audience room. He stood at the forefront as a problem solver to transform street tension into a structured formal agreement,” explained Wahab Talaohu from the 98 Resolution Network to reporters.

The culmination of the audience resulted in an official integrity pact signed by the DPR RI leadership. The commitment document sets an absolute deadline for the ratification of the Bill on Asset Forfeiture Related to Criminal Acts no later than 15 December 2026.

“This step was taken as a commitment and form of accountability in strengthening the eradication of corruption and the recovery of state assets,” he continued.

Furthermore, the document contains an extreme consequence clause stating the readiness of the DPR RI leadership to resign from their leadership positions and membership status in the council if the bill fails to be ratified in a Plenary Session by the specified deadline. This bold decision further cements Sufmi Dasco Ahmad’s reputation as a true statesman who does not hesitate to face political risk for the sake of the people.

“Prof. Dasco has instead emerged as a beacon of integrity and exemplary leadership. His progressive step in signing the integrity pact proves that visionary leadership is capable of transforming waves of street protests into a historic milestone of dignified legal reform,” he added.

“This uncompromising moral firmness ensures that the dignity of parliament is maintained, while affirming that the voice of the people always receives a dignified primary place,” said Wahab.
