Deputy Speaker of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Sufmi Dasco Ahmad has spoken out regarding regulations for a mineral and strategic commodities exchange. He stated that the matter is pending further discussion with the government and the Financial Services Authority (OJK).

"It just depends on the government requesting a meeting with us, then we will ask whether this is a government proposal or a DPR proposal," he said when met at the DPR RI complex in Jakarta on Friday (14/8/2026).

Subsequently, it can be determined according to the agreed mechanism. The target for completing the regulation will be accelerated this year.

"If there are not too many issues and they are not too crucial, it can be done quickly," he noted.

Previously, the Chair of Commission XI of the DPR RI, Mukhamad Misbakhun, stated that the preparation of infrastructure falls within the scope of OJK regulations concerning the mineral and commodities exchange. Misbakhun emphasised that the types of minerals and commodities to be traded will be detailed in an OJK Regulation (POJK).

"Yes, which minerals are included and which commodities are included will be regulated in the POJK," he stressed.

On this occasion, he affirmed that the authority previously held by the Commodity Futures Trading Regulatory Agency (Bappebti) will be transferred to the mineral exchange. This has been stipulated in the law.

"Matters relating to Bappebti will be pulled into the mineral exchange, the law already says so," he explained.

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) is targeting the mineral and strategic commodities exchange to begin operations on 1 January 2027. This is in accordance with the mandate of the Financial Sector Development and Strengthening Law (P2SK).

Therefore, the Chair of the OJK Board of Commissioners, Friderica Widyasari Dewi, confirmed there will be a Chief Executive for the Supervision of the Mineral and Strategic Commodities Exchange.

In addition to the official, Kiki added that much needs to be prepared in establishing this exchange, including infrastructure and derivative regulations from the OJK.

"There is a lot to prepare, especially infrastructure and regulations. At the very least, the POJK must be in place," she clarified.

The presence of the Mineral Exchange is considered capable of encouraging market efficiency and transparency, risk management, access to financing, supply chain efficiency, and increasing downstream competitiveness.

Furthermore, a reliable regulatory framework, supervision, and market infrastructure will support mineral downstreaming through transparent trading, efficient transaction settlement, and commodity-based financing. Support and involvement from all stakeholders are needed to ensure the mineral and strategic commodities exchange can develop credibly and competitively.

The Mineral Exchange is also expected to become a trading hub and price reference recognised at both regional and global levels.
