Sudirman-Thamrin Road in Central Jakarta Begins Closure for 'Jakarta Kolosal Bedug' Event

The Sudirman-Thamrin area in Central Jakarta began closing on Friday evening. The road closure is for the Jakarta Bedug Kolosal celebration and torch procession to welcome Eid al-Fitr 1447 H.

Observations at the location on Friday (20/3/2026) at 19:30 WIB showed that Jalan M.H. Thamrin towards Sudirman was closed, as was the direction from Sudirman to Thamrin.

Meanwhile, since 18:30 WIB, Central Jakarta has been hit by fairly heavy rain. Despite the rain drenching the area, residents appeared enthusiastic, still crowding the location.

Until 19:55 WIB, rain continued to fall on the Bundaran HI area with moderate intensity. Residents were seen using raincoats and umbrellas.

The bedug drummers returned to their respective positions after previously taking shelter from the heavy rain. The Bundaran HI area became lively again.

As is known, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is holding a series of events titled ‘Eid Mubarak Jakarta: Rhythm of Fountain’ at the Bundaran Hotel Indonesia area, Jakarta, on the night of takbiran, Friday (20/3) from 20:00 to 22:00 WIB.

The series of events prepared include Rampak Bedug, a 1,000 Bedug Festival, a torch procession with 5,000 participants, and visual attractions such as dancing fountain, lighting show, laser show, and flying LED show.

A religious atmosphere will also be felt through a lecture by Ustaz Akri and a special performance by Hadad Alwi. To support the smooth running of the event, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will implement traffic engineering with strict restrictions on private vehicles on several roads around the event location.
