Sudirman Said Undergoes Third Examination in Heating Petral Corruption Case

Jakarta – The investigation into alleged corruption in crude oil procurement at Pertamina Energy Trading Limited (Petral) for the 2008–2015 period continues to progress. Former Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Sudirman Said once again complied with a summons from the Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) to provide testimony as a witness on Friday, 17 July 2026. Prior to his examination, Sudirman confirmed that the agenda was still related to the Petral corruption case currently being pursued by the Kejagung. ‘It appears to still be related to the Petral matter,’ he stated. He also affirmed that his status remains solely as a witness in the case, which has also implicated oil tycoon Riza Chalid as a suspect. ‘Yes, as a witness,’ he said. This examination marks the third time Sudirman Said has been questioned by investigators in this case, following previous sessions on 23 December 2025 and 19 January 2026. The Attorney General’s Office has officially named seven suspects in the alleged corruption case involving crude oil procurement at Petral. In a surprising development, one of the individuals charged is prominent businessman Riza Chalid. The Director of Investigations for the Junior Attorney General for Special Crimes, Syarief Sulaeman Nahdi, confirmed that the naming of suspects was based on sufficient evidence. ‘The special crimes investigation team from the Attorney General’s Office has named seven suspects,’ he stated on Thursday, 9 April 2026. In addition to Riza Chalid, investigators have also named several other individuals, including BBG, the Commercial Manager of the Marketing and Commerce Directorate of Pertamina, whose last position was Managing Director of Pertamina Energy Service (PES); AGS, Head of Trading at Pertamina Energy Services (2012-2014); MLY, Senior Trader at Pertamina Energy Services Pte Ltd (2009-2015); NRD, Crude Trading Manager at PES; TFK, VP of ISC at Pertamina, whose last position was President Director of PT Pertamina International Shipping; and IRW, a director of companies owned by MRC.
