Sudewo, a member of the House of Representatives (DPR) for the 2019-2024 period and the current Regent of Pati for 2025-2030, has been charged with accepting gratifications considered as bribes. The alleged receipts include Rp2.34 billion in cash, a Nogososro keris valued at Rp15 million, and road repairs in front of his house worth Rp150 million.

Prosecutors from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) stated they are convinced the receipts were connected to his position and contrary to his obligations as a member of Commission V of the DPR. “Sudewa alias Sudewo committed several concurrent criminal acts which must be viewed as independent offences, having accepted gratifications deemed as bribes,” the KPK prosecutor said while reading the indictment at the Corruption Court in Semarang District Court, Central Java, on Monday (15/6).

The actions contravene Article 236 Paragraph (3) of Law Number 17 of 2014 concerning the MPR, DPR, DPD, and DPRD (MD3 Law), as well as Article 5 numbers 4 and 6 of Law Number 28 of 1999 concerning Clean and Free State Administration from Corruption, Collusion, and Nepotism, and Article 3 Paragraph (5) of DPR Regulation Number 1 of 2015 concerning the Code of Ethics.

As a member of Commission V of the DPR, Sudewo’s scope of duties included infrastructure and transportation, requiring him to work with various ministries and agencies. One such partner was the Ministry of Transportation, which has technical implementing units including the Directorate General of Land Transportation, Sea Transportation, Air Transportation, and Railways, the latter specifically handling railway facilities and infrastructure.

During the period of 2021 to 2022, at his residence in Kadipiro, Surakarta City, Central Java, Sudewo allegedly received cash payments on several occasions from Nur Widayat totalling Rp2.140 billion. He also received a keris worth Rp15 million from the same individual. Sudewo is also said to have received Rp200 million from Bernard Hasibuan, a Commitment Making Official within the Class I Semarang Railway Engineering Centre. Around 2022, still at his residence, he allegedly received a benefit from Dheky Martin in the form of road repairs in front of his house valued at Rp150 million.

“The receipt of gratifications in the form of money and goods by the Defendant, totalling Rp2.505 billion, was never reported to the Corruption Eradication Commission within the 30 working day period as required by Article 12C Paragraph (1) of the Corruption Eradication Law,” the prosecutor stated. “Therefore, it must be regarded as a bribe because it is related to the Defendant’s position as a Member of Commission V of the DPR and contrary to his obligations and duties.”

For his actions, Sudewo is charged with violating Article 12 B in conjunction with Article 18 of the Corruption Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 127 Paragraph (1) of Law Number 1 of 2023 concerning the Criminal Code.
