Chairman of the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) Kaesang Pangarep received a visit from Iran’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi. The meeting took place amid intensifying global geopolitical dynamics, particularly concerning the Middle East region and vital world energy routes.

In the meeting, Kaesang conveyed aspirations regarding the smooth distribution of Indonesia’s energy, especially for tankers owned by PT Pertamina (Persero) that pass through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil trade route recently affected by regional conflicts.

“We conveyed aspirations so that Indonesian tankers carrying Pertamina’s oil can pass through the Strait of Hormuz. It was also responded to that it can be done soon, as it just requires addressing a few technical issues,” said Kaesang on Thursday (16/4/2026), quoted from PSI’s official Instagram account.

Kaesang added that bilateral relations between Indonesia and Iran have so far proceeded well without significant obstacles. He also extended congratulations to the Iranian people on their new leadership, while hoping the regional situation improves soon.

“May permanent peace be achieved soon. No more victims need to fall,” he said.

Before meeting Kaesang, Boroujerdi had first visited Solo to meet Indonesia’s 7th President Joko Widodo in early April 2026. In that meeting, both parties discussed regional developments and the impacts of conflicts involving Iran.

According to a statement from the Iranian Embassy, the discussion covered the latest situation resulting from the “war imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran” and the humanitarian and economic implications it has caused.

“Mr Joko Widodo expressed sympathy to the Iranian people, and stated his and the Indonesian people’s support for the steadfastness and resistance of the Iranian government and people in defending national sovereignty,” the statement read.

Boroujerdi also outlined the on-the-ground conditions, including attacks on civilian areas, vital infrastructure, and economic facilities in Iran. The embassy emphasised that Iran has the right to self-defence in accordance with international law.

Both parties also reaffirmed the importance of maintaining long-standing bilateral relations, and encouraged further dialogue and closer cooperation in various sectors.
