Sudden Braking Causes Suspected Hazardous Waste Spill on Cileungsi Road
Waste being transported by a truck spilled, covering the road and the forecourts of shopfronts in Cileungsi, Bogor, West Java. The fire and rescue team was deployed to clean up the spill.
“Emergency rescue and assistance activities involving the cleaning of a waste spill took place in Pasir Angin Village, Cileungsi District. The waste is suspected to be hazardous (B3),” said the Head of the Bogor Regency Fire and Rescue Service, Yudi Santosa, on Friday (3/10/2026).
Yudi stated that the incident occurred while the truck was en route from Purwakarta to Klapanunggal, Bogor Regency, earlier this afternoon. At the scene, the truck braked suddenly, causing the cargo to spill and scatter across the shopfronts and public roads.
“Upon arriving at the Cileungsi-Setu Road, a private car in front braked suddenly, causing the driver to react by braking abruptly as well. Consequently, the waste overflowed and fell because the truck bed was not covered with a tarpaulin,” Yudi explained.
“This resulted in the cargo scattering across the streets and into the shops belonging to residents on both sides of the road,” he continued.
Yudi mentioned that the truck driver initially attempted to flee the scene but was pursued by local residents. The driver was subsequently held accountable and instructed to contact the fire department to clean up the scattered waste.
“The driver initially left the scene of the incident. However, members of the community chased the vehicle to ensure the driver took responsibility for cleaning the road and the shops. Residents directed the driver to immediately call fire department officers to assist in spraying away the waste,” Yudi clarified.
“The waste spill was successfully cleaned by removing the accumulated waste. We then proceeded to spray the area using water from a tank mixed with detergent,” he added.
Driver Under Police Investigation
Cileungsi Police Chief, Kompol Edison, confirmed the incident. He stated that the police are currently questioning the driver regarding the chronology of the event and the specific type of waste being transported.
“It is true that the incident occurred within the Cileungsi area. The fire department has already performed the spraying and the area has been cleaned,” Edison said when contacted separately.
“Meanwhile, we are questioning the driver and conducting further investigations. We do not yet know the specific type of waste; we are still awaiting further information,” he added.
