Sudaryono Urges Farmers to Adopt Modern Technology, Invites Youth into Agriculture
Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) and Chairman of the Indonesian Farmers’ Harmony Association (HKTI), Sudaryono, has emphasised the importance of utilising modern technology in the agricultural sector to increase productivity while attracting the younger generation to become farmers.
The statement was made by Sudaryono while attending a Farmers’ Gathering at the D’Embung Park Pandanmulyo Educational Park in Malang, East Java, some time ago. On that occasion, he assessed that the modernisation of agricultural equipment is one of the strategic steps to support the national food security programme.
According to Sudaryono, the use of modern agricultural equipment such as harvesting machines and land cultivation machines can help farmers work more effectively and efficiently, thereby impacting increased production yields and their welfare.
In addition to increasing productivity, Sudaryono believes that agricultural modernisation is also key to changing the younger generation’s perspective on the farming profession. According to him, the agricultural sector must be able to keep pace with technological developments in order to be more attractive to young people.
“To inspire young people to become farmers, this needs contemporary, modern support, perhaps like drones, perhaps like somewhat sophisticated agricultural equipment,” said Sudaryono in a written statement on Thursday, 6 August 2026.
He added that the government, through the Ministry of Agriculture, continues to encourage the use of technology in various agricultural activities as part of the transformation of the national food sector. The presence of modern agricultural equipment is expected to help farmers reduce their workload while increasing the efficiency of the cultivation process through to harvest.
Sudaryono conveyed this during the distribution of harvesting machines and land cultivation tools to hundreds of farmers who are members of 50 Combined Farmer Groups (Gapoktan). The assistance was the result of collaboration between the STAPA Center Foundation and HKTI.
According to him, synergy between the government, farmer organisations, and the private sector is an important factor in accelerating the adoption of technology in the agricultural sector. Through such collaboration, farmers are expected to gain access to more modern equipment so as to increase the competitiveness of agricultural products.
