Sudaryono Confirms Resignation as Deputy Agriculture Minister After Appointment as Head of National Nutrition Agency
Sudaryono has confirmed he is no longer serving as Deputy Minister of Agriculture after being officially inaugurated as Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) on Wednesday, 22 July 2026. He stated that the prevailing regulations do not permit an official to hold both positions concurrently. “Based on the information from Mr Prasetyo (Minister of State Secretary) earlier, there is no dual office-holding. So, I must relinquish the Deputy Minister post according to the Minister of State Secretary’s statement,” Sudaryono said on Wednesday.
He stressed that his full attention and responsibility will now be focused on carrying out his duties as Head of BGN. Regarding the figure who will replace him as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono admitted he has not yet received any information. He chose to wait for the government’s official decision on filling the position. “(For who will fill the Deputy Minister of Agriculture position) I don’t know. I don’t know,” he said.
Sudaryono also stated he is ready to carry out the mandate of leading the Free Nutritious Meals Programme after being entrusted by President Prabowo Subianto to head the BGN. “Pray that I am trustworthy, pray for my well-being, and I ask for the support of all my media colleagues. One thing I promise, I will work as well as possible, work hard as well as possible, that is all,” he said. He explained that the appointment was made after Nanik S Deyang resigned from the position of Head of BGN due to health reasons. Sudaryono revealed that he received news of his appointment via a telephone call from Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya. During the conversation, he was informed that he would be inaugurated today. “I was called earlier by Mr Teddy, that there would be an inauguration this afternoon, so it is true. And earlier the Minister of State Secretary also gave a press statement that I was appointed by the President to replace Mrs Nanik, who resigned due to health factors today,” Sudaryono said.
