Sudaryono: Appointment as New BGN Head Only Confirmed Wednesday Morning
Sudaryono, who previously served as Deputy Minister of Agriculture, revealed that his appointment as Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN) replacing Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, who resigned for health reasons, was only confirmed on Wednesday morning. Sudaryono, who arrived with his family at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Wednesday, said that on Tuesday evening he was contacted by Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi regarding the possibility of being appointed to replace Nanik. “Then this morning I received a call from the Cabinet Secretary, Mr Teddy, confirming that today I will be officially inaugurated to replace Mrs Nanik. Once again, she resigned for health reasons and we pray Mrs Nanik gets treatment soon, recovers quickly, is healthy, spirited, and well,” said Sudaryono before the inauguration. Responding to reports that he had been prepared since early July to fill the position, Sudaryono denied it. He asserted that he only learned of the appointment plan the night before. “No. It was just, just last night,” he said. Sudaryono stated that he would open space to receive input from various parties, including from Nanik, whom he considered to have experience leading the institution. He acknowledged there are still various issues in the implementation of BGN’s duties, including violations that must be evaluated. Therefore, he will start by listening to internal assessments from the BGN leadership. “We do not deny that there are indeed problems, even violations. We are also aware of that and we regret it. So we want to listen to input, constructive input of course, from various parties, including one of them from Mrs Nanik,” he said.
