Sudanese delegation to visit Aceh

JAKARTA: A Sudanese team is scheduled to leave for Aceh on Friday to observe the level of devastation there.

The team, led by Mohamed Hassan Ahmed al-Bashir, the brother of the Sudan's President Omar Hassan al-Bashir, consists of the representatives of the ruling National Congress Party and non- governmental organizations.

The team has also brought a plane-load of humanitarian aid consisting of food, blankets, tents and a field hospital to distribute to the tsunami victims.

"The Sudanese government and people have been very deeply shocked by the tsunami. We come here to participate in providing relief for our Muslim brothers from the tsunami disaster," he told The Jakarta Post in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Sudan will also send three doctors to Aceh, who will work under the coordination of the Indonesian government, the Sudan's Ambassador to Indonesia Siddig Yousif Abu-Agla said. --JP
