Sudan to build university in RI

JAKARTA: Minister of Foreign Affairs Hasan Wirayuda announced on Wednesday that the Sudanese government was preparing to establish a university in Indonesia.

The plan was part of Sudan's efforts to increase its cooperation with Indonesia in various areas of development, particularly education, Antara reported on Thursday.

Indonesian Ambassador to Sudan Abdul Hadi Adnan said the university would have a Faculty of the Arabic Language, a Faculty of Koranic Sciences and a Faculty of Islamic economics.

Most of the lecturers will be from Sudan, though there will be a number of Indonesians who have graduated from various universities in Sudan, he said.

Speaking on the sidelines of an Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) meeting in Khartoum, Sudan, Wirayuda also said he would talk with Sudan's Vice President Ali Osman Mohammed Taha about the improvement in bilateral relations.

Wirajuda said Osman would respond to the invitation of his Indonesian counterpart, Hamzah Haz, to pay a state visit to Jakarta from July 20 to 23. --Antara
