Sucofindo strengthens ship load education to support maritime safety
Ship load line certification is an important instrument in the national maritime safety system. Jakarta (ANTARA) - PT Sucofindo (Persero) is strengthening technical education on draught surveys, or the method of measuring ship loads based on changes in the ship’s draught before and after loading and unloading, to support maritime safety and compliance. The Head of the Sucofindo Sorong Branch Timika Service Unit, Capt. Awaluddin, stated that ship load line certification is an important instrument in the national maritime safety system. “The implementation of this certification aims to ensure ship stability, especially when facing bad weather or high waves, while also reducing the risk of overloading,” said Awaluddin based on his statement in Jakarta on Friday. This capacity building is carried out through a technical guidance activity on 15 April 2026, which focuses on improving understanding of barge load calculations as part of efforts to maintain ship stability. He explained that compliance with these standards also contributes to increasing global market confidence in Indonesian-flagged ships. Sucofindo, he continued, supports the implementation of this policy through technical services, one of which is barge load calculations that refer to standard operating procedures. He emphasised that the accuracy and objectivity of technical data are crucial factors in supporting the ship validation process by the Directorate General of Sea Transportation. In addition, Sucofindo also plays a role as a provider of technical expertise to enhance industry players’ understanding of the latest certification standards in the maritime sector. Through its draught survey services, the company measures the weight of bulk cargo based on changes in the ship’s draught, including accounting for non-cargo weight changes during operations. This process is carried out systematically, starting from document checks, technical measurements, to reporting results. “We ensure that every stage is carried out accurately and transparently to provide certainty of load quantity,” said Awaluddin. Besides draught surveys, Sucofindo also provides various other maritime survey services, such as bunker surveys, towing and lashing surveys, cargo stowage surveys, cleanliness surveys, hose tests, and damage surveys. Sucofindo is supported by infrastructure that includes 68 laboratories, 29 branch offices, and 93 service points across Indonesia. The company states it is ready to be a strategic partner for the government and industry in maintaining maritime safety, improving logistics efficiency, and strengthening confidence in the global trade chain.
