Jakarta - PT Sucofindo (Persero) is strengthening the competitiveness of national businesses through the development of sustainable innovation, aiming to drive business growth, enhance resilience to climate change, and create long-term economic value.

Sucofindo President Director Sandry Pasambuna stated that this effort is being carried out through the Environmental and Social Innovation Award (ENSIA) 2026, an event designed to encourage the emergence of the best environmental and social innovations from various business sectors in Indonesia.

“ENSIA is a form of our commitment to encouraging the business world to continuously innovate and take an active role in addressing various challenges,” Sandry said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

He conveyed that the launch of ENSIA 2026 is part of the state-owned company’s commitment to strengthening the implementation of sustainability principles while encouraging business contributions in tackling climate change and sustainable development challenges.

Through this event, companies in Indonesia are encouraged to present innovations that not only create positive impacts for the environment and society but also strengthen business competitiveness and sustainability amid increasingly complex global dynamics.

“This is a strategic step to expand the sustainability innovation movement in Indonesia. Through ENSIA 2026, we want to provide a collaborative space that can accelerate the birth of innovative solutions providing real benefits for society, the environment, and business sustainability,” he said.

According to him, the business world is now not only required to create economic growth but must also generate sustainable positive impacts. Therefore, innovation is key to creating a balance between business growth, environmental preservation, and improving community welfare.

Through ENSIA 2026, Sandry added, his party hopes that more companies will showcase their best practices in environmental management and community empowerment. The resulting innovations are expected to support climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts, strengthen community resilience, and create sustainable added value for the business world.

Director of Climate Change Adaptation at the Ministry of Environment, Franky Zamzani, said climate change has affected various strategic sectors, ranging from food, water resources, and energy to health and ecosystems. Therefore, strengthening adaptation capacity is an important part of sustainable development.

Franky emphasised that the government continues to promote integrated, inclusive, and science-based climate adaptation efforts to strengthen social, economic, and ecosystem resilience. These efforts are carried out through various priority programmes in the food, water resources, energy, health, and ecosystem sectors to reduce the risks and impacts of climate change.

“This is in line with the ministry’s pillars, namely the five priority areas of adaptation stipulated in Presidential Regulation Number 110 of 2025 concerning the Implementation of Carbon Economic Value Instruments and National Greenhouse Gas Emission Control,” Franky said.

Meanwhile, Head of the Life and Environmental Research Organisation at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), Andes Hamuraby Rozak, stressed the importance of research and innovation in supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation efforts. According to him, sustainable ecosystem management requires a science-based approach to produce measurable and impactful solutions.

Andes emphasised that nature-based solutions are becoming a trend as a means of protection, wise utilisation, and ecosystem restoration. “Restoration does not only focus on planting but also integrates climate, biodiversity, and community aspects,” he explained.

He cited the example of sustainable peatland restoration, which can support climate change mitigation, biodiversity recovery, and improved community welfare through scientific support, continuous monitoring, and community participation.

On the same occasion, Senior Staff of General Affairs & CSR at PT Smelting, Rachmayani, emphasised the important role of the business sector in supporting climate change control through collaboration with communities. According to her, the business world can contribute through various environmental programmes, ranging from waste management, water conservation, and greening to sustainable community empowerment.

“Collaboration between the business sector and the community is key to creating a sustainable future,” Rachmayani said.
