Sucofindo, SI, extend accords with SIRIM
JAKARTA (JP): State-owned PT Sucofindo and PT Surveyor
Indonesia signed agreements with Malaysian Technology Consultants
(MTC) here yesterday on technical assistance for quality
certifications of medium and small scale industries.
Under the agreements, MTC, an affiliate of the Standard and
Industrial Research Institute of Malaysia (SIRIM), will provide
consultancy and training on the development of quality services
and the development of laboratory business and management for the
two Indonesian firms.
Yesterday's agreements were signed by Sucofindo's president,
Moedjiono, Surveyor Indonesia's president, Faried Syibli Barchia,
SIRIM's chairman, Ahmad Tajuddin Ali, Surveyor Indonesia's
finance director, Toga M. Sitompul and MTC's general manager,
Akhmad Kamil Abu Bakar.
Sucofindo has actually had technical cooperation from SIRIM
since November 1993, when the two parties signed an accord on
superintending services.
Sucofindo's president, Moedjiono, said yesterday: "The
agreements will be very helpful because my company is currently
developing five major projects to create more favorable services
on quality management for the country's industrial businesses."
He explained that the five major projects include Internal
Quality Improvement, Sucofindo's Registrar for Quality Assurance
(SRQA), Quality Management Trainings, Quality Service Consultancy
and Quality Improvement Certification Scheme (QICS)."
With the SRQA project, domestic firms requiring certificates
for ISO-9000 quality standards -- set by the International
Standard Organization -- do not have to go abroad and hire
foreign auditors, who are usually more expensive, Moedjiono said,
adding that his company can provide such certificates.
He said his company is also pursuing joint projects with
certification boards from Germany, the United States and Japan.
Moedjono said that upon finishing QICS, Sucofindo will
cooperate with MTC in promoting the products of small and medium
scale industries.(icn)
