Subulussalam Legislature Backs Aceh Government's Call for Temporary Closure of Palm Oil Company PT MSB II
SUBULUSSALAM – Members of the Subulussalam City Legislature (DPR) have responded positively to the Aceh Provincial Government's letter requesting the temporary closure of PT MSB II, addressed to the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries/BKPM.
Hasbullah, Chairman of Commission B of the Subulussalam City Legislature, which oversees the plantation, economic, and corporate sectors, said he had been closely following developments regarding the surprise inspection conducted by the Aceh Provincial Government's Integrated Team at the operational site of PT Mandiri Sawit Bersama (PT MSB II).
According to Hasbullah, the presence of the integrated team from Aceh Province at PT MSB II in Kampong Namo Buaya, Sultan Daulat District, was a form of oversight that deserved appreciation. The purpose of the inspection was to ensure that every company operating in Aceh complied with all licensing requirements, maintained proper environmental governance, and did not cause negative impacts on surrounding communities.
"This action is crucial to ensure that investment entering our region continues to operate within legal parameters, transparently and sustainably," Hasbullah said on Wednesday.
Hasbullah added that Commission B fully supported the evaluative measures taken by the Provincial Government, particularly in responding to community reports and allegations of licensing irregularities involving PT MSB II.
Based on information he received, the Aceh Government had written to the Ministry of Investment/BKPM under letter number 500.10/7816 dated 24 June 2025, requesting the temporary suspension of the palm oil mill's operations to allow for regulatory enforcement and a reassessment of its business permits and environmental impact.
"I have personally received a copy of the Aceh Provincial Government's letter to the Ministry of Investment and Downstream Industries, and I regard this as a necessary administrative step to maintain regulatory compliance and address public concerns," he said.
Nevertheless, Hasbullah also emphasised the importance of conducting all processes objectively, measurably, and without haste. "The evaluation process must allow the company to provide clarification and make corrections if errors have indeed occurred, whilst still ensuring environmental safety and the rights of surrounding communities," he added.
Hasbullah stressed that Commission B would continue to actively and independently oversee the process. He explained that his side was not partisan towards anyone, but rather stood on the side of truth and the interests of the people of Subulussalam.
"Our principle is clear: healthy investment must go hand in hand with legal compliance and respect for the environment and local communities," he concluded.
Hasbullah also called on all parties to maintain a conducive atmosphere and place their trust in the authorised institutions to resolve the matter professionally.
"Transparency, accountability, and open dialogue are the keys to building a healthy and equitable investment climate in Subulussalam City. Let us maintain a conducive environment for the sake of our beloved nation," he said.
