SUBULUSSALAM – A member of the Subulussalam City Council (DPRK), Dewita Karya, has expressed appreciation for the Mayor's efforts in establishing a People's School and forging cooperation with the National Land College (STPN), whilst also raising concerns about a fuel station and the construction of temporary housing for fire victims in Subulussalam. The remarks were made on Thursday (17/7).

Dewita Karya delivered her comments during a plenary session convened for the presentation of a draft Qanun (local regulation) on the accountability of the 2024 Subulussalam City Budget. She interjected before the session was closed to convey community aspirations directly to the Mayor.

Several key points were raised. Dewita Karya noted that the establishment and construction of a People's School, funded substantially from the national budget (APBN), represents a significant breakthrough by the Mayor, who successfully convinced the Ministry of Social Affairs to build the facility in Subulussalam, with plans to open it this year.

"My hope is that with the opening of this People's School, children in Subulussalam who have limited means can experience a fully equipped standard school, and eventually gain admission to civil service academies. This is truly an extraordinary initiative by the Mayor, and I express my gratitude," she said.

Dewita Karya also commended recent efforts to prepare young people from Subulussalam for independent entry into the National Land College. "We acknowledge that very few of our children have graduated from STPN. That is precisely why we strongly support this initiative, so that in future, graduates from Subulussalam can complete their education at STPN and continue the leadership relay at the local National Land Agency (BPN)," she added.

During the same plenary session, Dewita Karya conveyed several further requests to the Mayor. She called for urgent communication regarding the opening of a fuel station (SPBU) in Kampong Subulussalam Utara, Simpang Kiri District. She argued that the existing fuel station in Penanggalan District is insufficient to serve the volume of vehicles, with residents enduring lengthy queues well past midnight.

"Palm oil transport vehicles from Sultan Daulat, which is my constituency, frequently arrive at the fuel station only to find supplies exhausted due to the extraordinarily long queues. The distance is approximately 30 kilometres. We therefore urge the Mayor to immediately pursue communication regarding the opening of a fuel station in Simpang Kiri," she said.

Finally, Dewita Karya, who also serves as Chair of the Megegoh Faction and Vice Chair of Commission C of the Subulussalam DPRK, raised the issue of a recent fire in Danau Tras Village, bordering Kampong Batu Napal, which destroyed two houses. She noted that temporary housing for the fire victims had yet to be constructed by the Subulussalam city administration.

"I hope the Mayor will immediately instruct the local Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) to follow up on the construction of these houses, in order to ease the burden on our affected residents," she concluded.
