Substandard pay
Substandard pay in Jakarta
From Republika
I am a courier for a leading joint venture between Indonesia and Britain, and have to go to work early every morning, and I originally expected to earn a decent salary.
However, it turns out that all I receive is a wage no better than the regional minimum wage (UMR) already fixed for the Jakarta region.
One day, as I talked with a cleaning service worker from a neighboring firm, he also complained about his low pay, spent for the most part on his transport costs.
Under present conditions many companies still pay salaries below the rate specified in the UMR for Jakarta. Therefore, the regional office of the Manpower Ministry should pay attention to these matters.
