Subsidised Fuel Prices to Remain Unchanged Until Year-End, Purbaya: Budget Sufficient!
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has emphasised that the government’s budget to prevent an increase in the price of subsidised fuel oil (BBM) is sufficient until the end of the year. Therefore, the BBM subsidy will continue without any price hikes until the end of 2026.
Purbaya stressed that the subsidy for BBM will be maintained until the end of the year. The value of this subsidy is continuously adjusted to the global crude oil price up to US$100 per barrel until the end of this year.
“With other exercises, cuts here and there, and savings here and there, we can ensure the deficit remains around 2.9%. I want to emphasise again that the price of subsidised BBM will not rise until the end of the year and my budget is sufficient,” explained Purbaya during a press conference on 6 April 2026.
Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto has decided not to raise the price of subsidised BBM types such as RON 90 Pertalite and Subsidised Diesel until December 2026.
The holding of subsidised BBM prices is to safeguard the purchasing power of the public, as announced on 31 March 2026.
“The government and Pertamina have decided not to increase the price of subsidised BBM Pertalite and diesel. Later, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa will explain that as long as the oil price does not exceed US$97 on average, we can maintain these BBM prices until December 2026,” clarified Airlangga during a press conference on Monday (6/4/2026).
As previously known, not only subsidised BBM, but the government also held the price of non-subsidised BBM or Pertamax series as of 1 April 2026. Regarding this, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia stated that discussions are underway on the price of non-subsidised BBM both with PT Pertamina (Persero) and private business entities.
“Regarding the price of non-subsidised BBM, we are currently discussing it. This discussion naturally also involves other private entities, and up to now, we are arranging and seeking a good and prudent formulation,” explained Bahlil when met at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources office on Monday (6/4/2026).
Unfortunately, Minister Bahlil could not yet confirm when the discussion would conclude. What is certain is that he promised to announce the results of the discussion on non-subsidised BBM prices.
“Wait until it’s finished, I will inform you. What is clear is that the government very much understands the current conditions of the public in the midst of society. Both for subsidised and non-subsidised, yes,” emphasised Bahlil.
