Subsidised flats in Meikarta could be bought this year
The Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas (PKP), Maruarar Sirait, said subsidised apartment blocks (rusun) in Meikarta, Cikarang Selatan, Bekasi, West Java, are targeted to enter the akad (contract-signing) stage this year. ‘There has been considerable progress, because we plan that this year there will already be akad,’ the Gerindra party politician said in South Jakarta on Thursday, 21 May 2026.
With the start of the akad, the public can begin to place orders and purchase the subsidised rusun in Meikarta. ‘Akad means the people can order and begin purchasing rather than the subsidised rusun in Meikarta,’ he added.
Mr Sirait said the construction of subsidised rusun in Meikarta is currently underway and showing progress. ‘We have started the subsidised flats, the largest one, namely in Meikarta. I will invite, perhaps in June, to see the progress,’ he said.
Sirait noted that the government has reported the plan to build the subsidised rusun to President Prabowo Subianto. In total, the project is planned to comprise 141,000 units to be built in phases. ‘Total 141,000 units, of course in phases,’ he added. He further stated that the subsidised flats will be located at three sites, with a total land area of 30 hectares.
Sirait explained that the land used for the subsidised rusun project comes from a donation. ‘There are three locations, total 30 hectares, the land is a donation from Pak Mochtar Riady, from Lippo Group,’ he said. He hoped the public would benefit from the subsidised flats, particularly as the location is in an industrial area believed to have many workers.
Beyond Meikarta, the government also plans to build subsidised rental flats for Low-Income Communities (MBR) in Depok, West Java, using land owned by the Ministry of Communications and Digital (Komdigi). Sirait has personally inspected the land recently. The inspections were conducted to ensure site readiness and to spur the acceleration of vertical housing development in densely populated urban areas.
