Subsidised Fertiliser Absorption Reaches 683,000 Tonnes in Sumatra
Subsidised fertiliser absorption in Regional I of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), or Sumatra Island, has reached 683,000 tonnes up to April 2026. This figure equates to 30% of the total 2026 allocation of 2.22 million tonnes.
Senior Manager Regional IA of PT Pupuk Indonesia (Persero), Beni Farlo, stated that this amount is 142% higher than the same period in 2025 (479,000 tonnes).
“This indicates that our farmers are very enthusiastic about planting activities,” Beni explained after a rice planting event with the Dairi Regency Government in Lumban Toruan Village, Lae Parira Subdistrict, Dairi, North Sumatra, on Wednesday (22/4).
Entering the next planting season, Beni continued, Pupuk Indonesia, as the fertiliser producer, will continue to ensure the availability of subsidised fertiliser stocks at official kiosks or retailers. They are also conducting ongoing outreach to farmers regarding redemption procedures and fertilisation applications on fields.
“We hope that the subsidised fertiliser absorption at the beginning of this year can have a positive impact on increasing agricultural productivity, thereby contributing significantly to achieving the national food self-sufficiency target,” Beni said.
Furthermore, he explained that the high absorption of subsidised fertiliser in Sumatra is inseparable from the transformation in the governance of subsidised fertiliser distribution carried out by the Government. These changes simplify distribution bureaucracy, ultimately making it easier for farmers to redeem subsidised fertiliser.
This regulatory simplification is outlined in Presidential Regulation No. 6/2025 concerning improvements to the governance of subsidised fertiliser distribution. This regulation was then refined in Presidential Regulation No. 113/2025, which focuses on fertiliser industry efficiency. As a result, starting 1 January, farmers can redeem subsidised fertiliser without lengthy bureaucracy.
In practice, this ease is evident as farmers registered in the electronic Definitive Plan for Group Needs (e-RDKK) only need to bring their Identity Card (KTP) to official kiosks or Fertiliser Recipients at Delivery Points (PPTS) when redeeming subsidised fertiliser. Another historic impact is the 20% reduction in the Highest Retail Price (HET) for all types of subsidised fertiliser since 22 October 2025.
Finally, Beni also stated that the high fertiliser absorption on Sumatra Island contributes to the significant national subsidised fertiliser absorption. In the same period, the national subsidised fertiliser distribution realisation reached 2.85 million tonnes, or about 29% of the total allocation of 9.85 million tonnes.
“This achievement shows that subsidised fertiliser distribution in the PT Pupuk Indonesia Regional I area is running well and continues to improve, in line with the strengthening of the distribution system and digitalisation support in the fertiliser redemption process by farmers,” Beni concluded.
