Subiakto's request rejected

JAKARTA: The police turned down on Tuesday the request from Subiakto Tjakrawerdaya's lawyer, who asked that his client be released from detention as they have completed Subiakto's dossier.

Subiakto, the former State Minister of Cooperatives and Small and Medium Enterprises, along with Bustanil Arifin, the former head of State Logistic Agency (Bulog), were the main suspects in Rp 10 billion scandal of Bulog's fund. Bustanil is now under house arrest.

Lawyer Jeniver Girsang argued that Subiakto was not needed anymore by the police.

Chief of detective division, Sr. Comr. Bambang Hendarso Danuri, however, disagreed, saying that Subiakto was still needed for additional questioning and that he still had another five days before the detention was concluded. --JP
