Subdistrict offices on green areas

JAKARTA (JP): Central Jakarta Mayor Andi Subur Abdullah has
asked city councilors to help find new sites for three
subdistrict offices currently located on green areas.

"I ask for the city council to give suggestions to Governor
Sutiyoso for new sites for those three subdistrict offices," Andi
said over the weekend.

The three subdistrict offices are in Gambir, Gondangdia and
Pegangsaan, Andi said, adding that his office realized it was
wrong to use green areas for offices.

"It's hard to find a suitable site in Central Jakarta for the
relocation of the offices. Land prices are too high and we cannot
afford to appropriate the land from residents. It would cause too
much trouble."

He said his office was placed in an awkward position because
he had no choice but to run the three offices where there are.
"We have no alternatives at this moment," Andi said.

Therefore he asked the councilors for help. "I hope you (the
councilors) will find a solution to this matter," he said.

The Central Jakarta Mayoralty at present oversees 44
subdistrict officers, of which only the above three are built on
green areas. (07)
