Subaru Prepares Strong Hybrid Model for Indonesian Market
Jakarta — Subaru Indonesia has signalled its intention to begin entering the vehicle electrification segment in the domestic market this year. However, rather than launching a purely electric vehicle outright, the company plans to introduce a model featuring strong hybrid technology, which is considered more suited to current market conditions.
The announcement was made by Subaru Indonesia’s Executive General Manager, Adrian Quintano. According to him, Subaru already possesses several electrified models globally, including electric vehicles such as the Subaru Solterra.
“Regarding electrification, Subaru has several variants like the Solterra, and most of these share a platform,” Adrian stated when met in West Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
Adrian explained that the company is currently assessing which model best fits the local market. Subaru plans to introduce a strong hybrid model by the end of 2026.
“We are also considering, in particular, how electrification can be adapted and what works best for Indonesia. We are planning to launch a strong hybrid variant towards the end of the year to meet customer demand whilst supporting the green ecosystem,” he said.
This move is described as Subaru’s response to the growing electrification trend in the automotive industry.
“To address the trend and public demand regarding electrification, we are planning to identify one strong hybrid variant from models that already exist. We are simply waiting for the right timing,” Adrian added.
However, Subaru Indonesia has not yet confirmed which model will be brought to the domestic market. The company is continuing its assessment before determining the product deemed most suitable to the character of Indonesian consumers.
