Subang Government Distributes Water Pumps to Combat Drought in Rice Fields

The Subang Regency Government in West Java is distributing agricultural machinery, including water pumps, to address the drought affecting rice fields in the region. Areal persawahan (rice field areas) across several northern districts of Subang are experiencing drought during the 2026 dry season. “Right now, we actually need a lot of water because the paddy is only about 20 days old,” said Juna, a farmer in Blanakan District, Subang, on Monday. He said farmers in his area are in dire need of water during the dry season, as their paddy crops have reached 25 days of age. Farmers are now worried that their paddy will die due to the water shortage, with the soil in the fields already dry and cracked. In an effort to overcome the water shortage affecting thousands of hectares of rice fields, farmers around Blanakan District are working together to normalise shallow irrigation channels. “We are constantly trying to get water into the rice fields that have been planted,” he said. Subang Regent Reynaldy Putera Andita previously stated that his administration is working to anticipate the drought to maintain agricultural production. One of the measures taken is providing agricultural machinery, specifically water pumps, to farmers. Water pump assistance has been distributed to several farmer groups to face the dry season, including the Layungsari Farmer Group in Citrajaya Village, the Sukardi Farmer Group in Kediri Village, and the Harapan Tani Jaya Farmers’ Union in Binong Village. Furthermore, to address water supply difficulties for the rice fields, the regent is continuously coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture regarding the plan to build three reservoirs in the agricultural areas of northern Subang. The construction of the reservoirs aims to prevent the drought from continuing in the northern Subang region.
