Subang Government Distributes Water Pumps to Combat Drought in Rice Fields

The Subang Regency Government in West Java has distributed agricultural machinery and tools (alsintan), including water pumps, to address drought affecting rice-field areas in the region.

Rice fields spread across several northern parts of Subang Regency have been hit by drought during the 2026 dry season.

“At the moment we actually need water the most because the paddy is only around 20 days old,” said Juna, a farmer in Blanakan District, Subang, on Monday.

He said farmers in his area urgently need water amid the dry season, as their paddy crops have reached 25 days of age.

Farmers are now worried their crops will die, as water scarcity has left the soil in their rice fields dry and cracked.

In an effort to overcome the water shortage for irrigating thousands of hectares of rice fields, farmers around Blanakan District have been working together to normalise shallow irrigation channels.

“We are continuing our efforts so that water can reach the rice fields that have already been planted with paddy,” he said.

Subang Regent Reynaldy Putra Andita previously stated that his administration is working to anticipate drought in order to safeguard agricultural production.

One measure taken has been providing agricultural machinery and tools in the form of water pump engines to farmers.

Water pump assistance has previously been distributed to a number of farmer groups in preparation for the dry season. The aid was given, among others, to the Layungsari Farmer Group in Citrajaya Village, the Sukardi Farmer Group in Kediri Village, and the Harapan Tani Jaya combined farmer group (Gapoktan) in Binong Village.

In addition, as part of efforts to address water scarcity in rice-field areas, the regent said he continues to coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture regarding plans to build three retention basins (embung) in agricultural areas in northern Subang.

The construction of the retention basins is intended to prevent drought from continuing in the northern part of Subang.
