Subagyo gets historic mansion
YOGYAKARTA: Indonesian tycoon Probosutedjo has bought the mansion of the late General Soedirman, the Armed Forces' founding father, for the Army's new deputy chief, Lt. Gen. Subagyo Hadisiswoyo.
Probosutedjo, President Soeharto's stepbrother, handed over the mansion in downtown Kotabaru to Subagyo in a party Saturday.
"It's just natural that a general's house is handed down to a general," Probosutedjo said at the thanksgiving party.
He said Subagyo, a former President's guard under Soeharto, deserved the former guerrilla leader's house. Subagyo comes from Piyungan, about 15 kilometers east of here.
"After owning the house, I hope Subagyo will be able to perform his duties better and have a brighter future," Probosutedjo said.
Subagyo, who will spend most of his time in Jakarta, said he would open the mansion to the public. "It is heritage for all," he said. (23)
