'Suara Medeka' may face suit
PURWOKERTO, Central Java: The provincial legislature along with the Banyumas City Council are considering filing a libel suit against Suara Medeka daily for publishing a report which alleged that council speaker Warsono Nursoleh took bribes from deputy governor Djoko Sudantoko.
The daily has a large circulation in Central Java.
Warsono told The Jakarta Post here last night that the Banyumas City Council and the provincial legislature may file a joint suit.
"Because the content of the suit is the same we will leave it up to the provincial legislature," he said.
According to Warsono the Banyumas City Council has informed the daily by letter, dated Aug. 22, of its intention to sue.
The suit revolves around a report in Thursday's edition which claimed that Djoko had bribed legislature and council members so he could get approval as deputy governor.
Warsono, who was said to have received Rp 5 million in the report, categorically denies the allegation. (45)
