Jakarta (ANTARA) - Samsung and Google, at Google I/O 2026, finally unveiled the first look at their AI-powered smart glasses. The glasses had previously been reported to be in development since October 2025, in collaboration with eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker. Jay Kim, Vice President and Head of the Customer Experience Office, Mobile eXperience (MX) Business at Samsung Electronics, said the two smart glasses mark a significant step in Samsung’s AI vision. The two new glasses are designed to accompany Samsung smartphones. Through the smart glasses, users can access assistance via voice interaction and connect to their smartphones in a familiar form. The glasses developed with Gentle Monster focus on style and aesthetics, while those with Warby Parker present timelessly elegant designs. Users can access navigation assistance simply by asking Gemini via their voice, receive personalised suggestions such as the nearest coffee shop on their walking route, or even order food for pickup. There are also summary notifications for important text messages, and the ability to add events to the user’s calendar, providing convenience without needing to access the smartphone. Google views this innovation as a way to help users stay connected with digital products more naturally without sacrificing a stylish appearance. ‘Smart glasses are a significant step forward in our shared vision with Samsung to make AI more useful and accessible in everyday life,’ said Shahram Izadi, Vice President and GM Android XR at Google. The first collection of smart glasses from the Google-Samsung collaboration will launch in autumn 2026 in selected markets with more details to be announced in the coming months.
