Sumedang Regency Government records a positive trend in addressing stunting. The prevalence of stunting in the area has been reduced from 6.9% to 6.6%. Deputy Regent Muhammad Fajar Aldila stressed the local government’s commitment to continue lowering the figure to below 5%. He made the remarks while chairing the Coordinating Meeting on Prevention and Acceleration of Stunting Reduction on Thursday, 21 May.

Deputy Regent Fajar emphasised that stunting interventions must be based on data rather than assumptions. Data integration covers households at risk of stunting, prospective brides, pregnant women, and programme beneficiaries. ‘All data must be integrated and updated regularly. Accurate data will determine the timeliness of the interventions we implement,’ he said.

In addition to data collection, the Sumedang Regency Government prioritises the health of adolescent girls as future mothers. Nutrition education, anaemia prevention through iron tablets, and healthy lifestyle promotion are core agendas. Fajar also highlighted the importance of preventing child marriage at an early age, which significantly increases health risks for mothers and children. ‘Early marriage not only affects social aspects but also increases health risks including the risk of stunting,’ he concluded.

He expressed hope that stunting management would become a joint movement undertaken seriously, in an integrated and sustainable manner by all levels of society in Sumedang Regency.
