Study UK campaign comes to Jakarta MRT to promote study in the UK
Jakarta — The British Council’s global Study UK campaign has been presenting study opportunities and compelling facts about the world-class education in the United Kingdom on Jakarta’s MRT from 23 February to March 2026.
‘Being on the MRT reminds us how important connections are in daily life. Education works in much the same way, connecting people, ideas, and opportunities across borders,’ said UK Ambassador to Indonesia, Dominic Jermey.
In a British Council press release issued in Jakarta on Saturday, Jermey noted that educational cooperation has long been a key pillar of the UK-Indonesia strategic partnership.
The campaign also highlights the inspirational story of Amelia Khairani Sutrisno, a MRT Jakarta train driver who recently completed the MSc Railway Systems Engineering and Integration at the University of Birmingham in December 2025. The degree was supported by an LPDP scholarship from the Indonesian Government.
‘TStudying Railway Systems Engineering and Integration in the UK has given me a deeper understanding of how railway networks are designed and managed,’ she said.
Amelia said she is proud to bring that knowledge back to Indonesia and apply it in her work at MRT Jakarta.
Meanwhile, Summer Xia, Country Director of the British Council for Indonesia, said choosing where to study is an important step for young people and their families. ‘For many young people and their families, deciding where to continue studies is often the starting point of a much larger journey,’ she said.
She added that through Study UK, they aim to help young people explore those options with greater confidence. ‘We hope to broaden horizons of global opportunities while providing easier access to reliable information about studying in the UK,’ she added.
Along the MRT train line, passengers can also find various interactions with QR codes directly connected to the digital Study UK platform. Through the platform, the public can access information about universities in the UK, study programme options, application processes, and scholarship opportunities.
