Study natural phenomena

I agree with President Soeharto's recent statement that we
should all read about and understand the present natural
happenings.

The recent natural phenomena are hard to interpret despite the
use of sophisticated equipment. Just think of El Nio, which has
not spared Indonesia. There may still be other disasters in
store. What we need to watch is floods in the wake of the severe
drought, which would continue to make planting impossible.

Soeharto has recommended a change in our staple food, so we
would not depend too much on rice. If rice was no longer
available, what would we do? We must prepare to overcome such a
problem.

Let us give adequate response to Soeharto's directives. He has
instructed us to read and to study natural phenomena. May God
give him physical and mental strength in leading the republic.

I see Soeharto as a strong navigator and as a figure of the
21st century. May our ideals be reached under his leadership,
i.e. equitable distribution of welfare and justice.
