Study and Earn? UBSI Entrepreneur Day Helps Students Build Businesses
Pontianak – Amidst the growing trend of young people starting businesses while studying, the Universitas Bina Sarana Informatika (UBSI) Pontianak Campus, known as a Creative Digital Campus, has created a platform for students to learn business and earn income. The Entrepreneur Day programme, titled ‘Khatulistiwa Creative Market: Local Taste, Global Mind’, was held on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, in the open areas and corridors of the UBSI Pontianak Campus.
Initiated by the BSI Entrepreneur Center (BEC), the event is more than a typical market. Entrepreneur Day provides students with a space to directly experience entrepreneurship by setting up free stalls on campus.
The main reason for the event is the phenomenon of many students having creative business ideas but struggling to start them. Many students have appealing products—from food and drinks to creative goods—but face challenges with sales locations and limited experience.
Nurmalasari, the Entrepreneur Day coordinator and BEC coordinator, said UBSI Pontianak aims to provide a practical solution by creating an entrepreneurial ecosystem on campus every Wednesday. Students are given the opportunity to learn business management directly without worrying about stall rental costs.
“This event serves as a platform for students to learn and experience entrepreneurship firsthand. We hope they gain confidence in developing their business ideas,” Nurmalasari stated in a written release on Monday, 25 May.
During the event, students not only sell products but also learn to interact with customers, set prices, create promotional strategies, and manage their business finances. Such experiences are crucial as they provide real-world insights into the business world.
“The programme is open to all active UBSI Pontianak students from any study program and year group. Participants can join individually or in groups according to their creativity,” Nurmalasari added.
The market atmosphere was lively and enthusiastic, with a variety of student products adorning the campus—from trendy food and refreshing drinks to various creative goods that attracted students, lecturers, and staff.
Through Entrepreneur Day, UBSI Pontianak Campus aims to demonstrate that universities are not just places for classroom theory but also environments where students can grow into creative, independent young entrepreneurs ready to face the business world early on.
