Students warned over final exams

JAKARTA: Beginning next year, the government may no longer administer makeup tests for students who fail the national final exam, a minister says.

Minister of National Education Bambang Sudibyo said on Wednesday the proposal came from the National Education Standardization Agency, which also recommended that the average passing grade be increased to 4.50 from 4.26 for each subject tested.

"We have received the proposal and are discussing it. A ministerial regulation will be issued soon in response to the proposal," Bambang said.

He said the agency conducted a survey that found 90 percent of respondents opposed makeup tests, but preferred stricter controls to prevent the leakage of exam materials. -- Antara
