Students vandalize department store

PURWAKARTA, West Java: A group of youths, angered when one of
them was accused of shoplifting by a salesgirl, vandalized the
"NS" department store here on Tuesday.

A number of security personnel had to guard the store until
Wednesday, while several students were detained along with the
proprietor for questioning.

Antara reported that the incident took place after store
employees accused 14-year-old Yul of trying to steal a candy bar.
They then punished him by slapping his face and by forcing him to
clean the toilets and mop the floor.

In addition, Yul was also marched around the store while the
employees yelled "thief, thief". Police chief Lt. Col. Zainal
Arifin said the incident took place two weeks ago, and that
police were still studying the case.

Yul's family said they would sue the store owner. (swe)
