Students to Protest at Palace and DPR This Afternoon, 3,000 Personnel Deployed
Students from various campuses and elements of society will hold a demonstration in Jakarta on Monday (4/5) this afternoon. There are at least three main protest points this afternoon. The police are deploying up to 3,225 combined personnel to secure the protest action held by a number of students from various universities and community elements. The three protest points are in front of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Higher Education (Kemendiktiristek) in the Senayan area, in front of the DPR building also in the Senayan area, and at the palace, which is permitted only in the Medan Merdeka Selatan area, Central Jakarta. Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Pol Reynold EP Hutagalung assured that security will be carried out on the principle of serving the community and respecting citizens’ constitutional rights to express opinions in public. “We are present to serve the community in expressing aspirations in a humane, professional manner and in accordance with the rules,” said Reynold in Jakarta on Monday morning, quoted from Antara. According to him, 3,225 combined personnel from Polda Metro Jaya, Polres, and Polsek under their jurisdiction are on standby to serve the protest action. “There are 3,225 combined personnel to serve the protest action,” he stated. The protest action points from BEM SI and Kerakyatan as well as the Civil Society Coalition are held in front of the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, scheduled at 11:00 WIB. There is also a protest action from the Executive Student Council of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta State Islamic University (DEMA UIN) and several mass elements in the Medan Merdeka Selatan Street area or also known as the Horse Statue point in Gambir Ward, Central Jakarta, at 10:00 WIB. In addition, a protest is also held by the Executive Body of Indraprasta PGRI University Students (BEM Unindra) in front of the MPR/DPR building at 11:00 WIB.
