Students to get tetanus vaccinations

JAKARTA (JP): The city administration will give tetanus vaccinations to about one million students of elementary schools throughout the city next month, an official said on Monday.

Kamaludin S., spokesman for the administration, said in a statement that the free-of-charge vaccination service would be part of the national campaign to eradicate tetanus.

"The campaign is intended mainly for students of both state, and Moslem and other private schools. Each student will get an injection of diphtheria tetanus vaccination and another of toxoid tetanus," Kamaludin said.

He said that students who had received the vaccinations would get certificates, which would be given to them after passing their final exams at the school.

He explained that the campaign was aimed mainly at protecting students from the danger of tetanus, thereby helping protect the next generation.

In Jakarta, the campaign will be conducted in 3,705 elementary schools with about 973,740 students from first to sixth grades, he said. (hhr)
