Students Stage Protest in Front of Parliament Building This Afternoon
A mass of students from the PB PMII group staged a protest in front of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) building on Jalan Gatot Subroto, Central Jakarta, today. They arrived carrying a number of demands.
According to monitoring at the location on Monday (22/6/2026), they arrived at 15:45 WIB. The crowd had conducted a long march from the Semanggi direction.
They appeared to be guided by a single command vehicle. They also wore the alma mater jackets of their respective organisations while carrying banners and posters containing their demands.
Several individuals attempted to burn tyres and a mock coffin, as well as trying to blockade the road. Police subsequently extinguished the fire with a fire extinguisher and dispersed the crowd attempting to block the road.
The situation at the location became tense as a result of the burning and the attempted road closure. Meanwhile, the students continued to deliver speeches around the area.
The protest rendered the leftmost lane of Jalan Gatot Subroto heading towards Slipi, in front of the DPR building, impassable. Traffic congestion occurred on Jalan Gatot Subroto before the DPR building, with traffic flowing smoothly again after passing the building.
It is known that the crowd had five demands. Among them, they called on the government to uphold the mandate of the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia, to strengthen national economic independence, to reset the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), and to improve teacher welfare.
