Students should keep struggling
Students should keep struggling
From Koran Tempo
The acquittal of Akbar Tandjung by the Supreme Court is a betrayal of reform, which sets a bad precedent for law enforcement in Indonesia.
But not all is lost. The struggle to uphold justice and eliminate corruption, collusion and nepotism will go on. Therefore, all students and people pursuing these common goals should maintain their fighting spirit.
Akbar may be smiling with satisfaction, but we should be convinced that wealth and power obtained by dishonest means will make him uneasy, because what he acquired runs counter to the conscience of millions of Indonesians.
Students, who in their protest against the appeal court decision were injured, on the other hand, can now rest easy because they heroically fought against tyranny backed by power.
The court decision also shows that we are facing not only Akbar or a system that protects him, but also the greater force of a corrupt culture in which the nation is still engulfed. So the journey to eradicate this culture is still long.
