Students rally against Golkar

PURWOKERTO, Central Java: Hundreds of students from various
universities in Purwokerto staged a rally here on Tuesday,
demanding that Golkar party be banned from participating in the
2004 general election due to past indiscretions.

The demonstration started at the campus of state-run Jendral
Sudirman University before the students marched to the town
square where they made speeches.

Later, the protesters moved to state-run Radio Republik
Indonesia and asked the radio to broadcast their protest, but the
request was turned down.

The students also demanded that former president Soeharto be
thoroughly investigated by the Attorney General's Office. (45)
