Students raid police office

BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: Some 600 students from three high
schools in the Krui district, West Lampung, attacked the local
police precinct after reports of a police chief punching a
teacher in the face, Antara reported.

Their target was Second Lt. Yusuf Yahya, whom the students
said beat Agus Pramono, a teacher at the SMA I high school. They
demanded that the officer be removed.

The news agency did not detail the injuries sustained.

Police have said that they are investigating the case together
with the local office of the Ministry of Education and Culture.

Yusuf reportedly admitted that he summoned Agus to the
precinct following a complaint that the teacher slapped two
pupils, one of whom was the officer's son. However, Yusuf denied
mistreating the teacher. (imn)
