Students protest fuel shortage in Manado

MANADO, North Sulawesi: Hundreds of students of Manado
University staged a demonstration, demanding local authorities
and the state-owned Pertamina solve the fuel shortage that has
affected the province over the last two weeks.

The students also asked local police to conduct a raid on
those who were hoarding fuel, thereby causing the fuel shortage
and the subsequent price hike.

Following the demonstration, representatives from the
students, the local Pertamina office, local police and the
provincial legislative council met to discuss the fuel crisis in
the province.

The price of kerosene has risen drastically to Rp 1,500 per
liter from Rp 550 because of the fuel shortage. --Antara
