Students protest fee hike

BOGOR (JP): Some 600 students of Manunggal Vocational High School on Jl. Raya Jakarta-Bogor in Cibinong walked out of class on Wednesday to protest a school fee hike.

The students urged school management to fulfill its promise to provide sport facilities and lower the apprenticeship fee.

"Every year the foundation increases the school fee by Rp 32,000 to Rp 37,000, and the current apprenticeship fee at Rp 200,000 is unaffordable," one of the students, Merry, said.

The students also deplored the school's decision to fire six teachers this year.

Head of the school foundation Nurdin Kusnadi and principal Subadri could not be reached for comment.

The students threatened to continue their protest if their demands were not met. (21/lup)
