Students Protest at School Counselling Office Following Alleged Harassment by Security Guard
Students from SMAN 1 Sentolo, Kulon Progo, recently gathered at the school’s guidance and counselling (BK) office in response to allegations that a security guard harassed a female student. The school authorities have clarified that the staff member in question is currently undergoing the process of dismissal.
“The students spontaneously asked, ‘Who said this wouldn’t be resolved? It is being ignored, and the security guard is still visible.’ I then explained, ‘The process is scheduled for these dates, and the results have been followed up,’” said Johan Wahyudi, the Vice Principal for Student Affairs, when met at SMAN 1 Sentolo, Kulon Progo, on Thursday (17/09/2026).
According to Johan, the claim that the harassment case was not being addressed or was being hidden is inaccurate. He stated that the school has taken necessary action.
“So, the words that it has not been followed up or is being hidden are incorrect because it has been resolved. It may just be that there is a lack of satisfaction,” he said.
Johan admitted that he also personally wanted the security guard to be removed from the school immediately.
“The ultimate satisfaction would be his dismissal. In fact, I was also dissatisfied because I had proposed his transfer. I said exactly that,” he added.
Conversely, Johan suggested that the protest was actually triggered by a school regulation requiring students to arrive by 06:50 WIB. However, the harassment allegation was reportedly included as part of the students’ grievances.
“In reality, the initial cause was a school policy that students were unhappy with, namely the 06:50 start time. The school expects students to be in their classrooms by 07:00, accounting for the 10-minute walk from the car park,” he explained.
“They used the issue as leverage. They said, ‘We do not agree with the 06:50 start time, and this case (the alleged harassment) has not been handled yet.’ So, that was essentially a secondary issue. However, the secondary issue is what went viral,” he clarified.
It was previously reported that an outsourced security guard at SMAN 1 Sentolo allegedly harassed a student at the school.
Johan Wahyudi, the Vice Principal for Student Affairs, stated that the incident began when two female students went to retrieve items left in their classroom following marching band (tonti) practice last August.
At the time, the school was quiet. The students subsequently asked the security guard for assistance in retrieving the items.
Johan stated that after the items were retrieved, the guard allegedly attempted to embrace one of the students, but the student managed to avoid him.
The school became aware of the incident after the student reported it to the school counsellor. Johan noted that CCTV footage was also reviewed to verify the incident.
According to Johan, the CCTV footage shows the security guard attempting to embrace the student and shows the student attempting to evade him.
