Students plant trees, release fish

BOGOR: Dozens of junior and senior high school students planted 20 trees in the Bogor Botanical Garden and released 100 kilograms of carp fry at Gunting pond, behind the Bogor Palace on Monday.

The activities were held in conjunction with the World Environment Day, which falls on June 5, and the appointment of the city as a pollution-free zone.

The almond, resin, and guava trees planted by the students "are important as habitats for birds", according to the Botanical Garden's spokeswoman Sugiarti. -- JP
