Students Lose KJMU Scholarship Due to Decile Data Changes, Pramono Responds

A number of students receiving the Kartu Jakarta Mahasiswa Unggul (KJMU) programme have reportedly lost access to the scholarship due to changes in decile data. As a result, several students are unable to continue their higher education.

Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung said he had received reports regarding the issue. He noted that six students could no longer use KJMU because of changes to their decile data.

“I have also received a lot of input that yesterday, reportedly — I will also check this — there were six people who ultimately could not continue their studies because they no longer received KJMU,” he said at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (31/8/2026).

Pramono said he had therefore instructed the Jakarta Provincial Education Agency to carry out a re-examination. Education is one of the priority programmes of the Jakarta Provincial Government.

“Specifically, I have asked the Head of the Education Agency to conduct a direct rechecking of the students concerned,” he said.

According to him, the Jakarta Provincial Government has full authority in determining recipients of the KJMU education social assistance. The budget used for the programme comes entirely from the Jakarta regional budget (APBD).

“And for that reason a check is being carried out, because it is different from other regions. For Jakarta, the KJMU decision rests with us. Based on the data from BPS,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Principal Secretary of Statistics Indonesia (BPS), Zulkipli, said his agency had coordinated with the relevant ministry regarding the issue. This means that scholarship recipients affected by decile changes can seek resolution through the relevant ministry.

“So there is already cooperation in place for us to jointly recheck the matter,” he said.
