Students in Klungkung Enthusiastically Learn Kamasan Wayang Painting
Dozens of students enthusiastically took part in a Kamasan Wayang painting workshop. They learned about the classical traditional painting technique originating from Kamasan Village, Klungkung Regency, Bali, through the 2026 Workshop and Art Performance programme.
The activity was organised by the Klungkung Culture Agency (Disbud) at Pelantaran Pemedal Agung Klungkung on Monday (31/8/2026). The cultural preservation programme was attended by students from SMPN 1 Semarapura, SMAN 1 Semarapura, and SMK Negeri 1 Klungkung.
The Head of the Klungkung Culture Agency, I Wayan Suteja, emphasised that Kamasan Wayang painting is not merely a visual work, but a medium for conveying moral messages and regional identity. In addition to classical Kamasan Wayang painting, the workshop also covered expressive dance and rhythmic music.
“We hope the participants can make the most of this activity so that they are not afraid to experiment and collaborate to produce works of art that not only entertain, but also educate and inspire the wider community,” said Suteja.
The Klungkung students are expected to innovate while continuing to preserve traditional arts. According to Suteja, regeneration is needed so that Klungkung’s distinctive traditional arts remain relevant amid the tide of modernisation.
The Regent of Klungkung, I Made Satria, was also present to open the activity. According to Satria, the Klungkung Regency Government is committed to facilitating and developing the creative ecosystem of young people in the area so that they are able to produce works that are globally competitive without uprooting their cultural roots.
“The Klungkung Regency Government is fully committed to continuing to facilitate, protect, and develop this creative ecosystem. The workshop is tangible proof of the government’s presence in encouraging students and local artists to become more professional,” said Satria.
Satria asked the students to use the activity as a space for exchanging ideas and absorbing knowledge from the speakers. In doing so, he said, the arts scene in Klungkung will become increasingly vibrant and dynamic.
